Research at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre is underpinned by good clinical research practice (GCP) which is an ethical and scientific standard by which research is designed, implemented and reported, ensuring the data are credible and the rights, integrity and confidentiality of participants are safeguarded.  

Differing levels of medical research is supported and undertaken with research findings maximizing clinical practice and policy.  This can lead to improved patient care and outcomes, service delivery and efficiency.  Appropriately trained and qualified individuals supervise all research.

Collaboration provides opportunities for staff and patients to access recent advances in sexually transmitted infection/HIV treatment and prevention. Partnerships operate at the following levels:

• Local e.g Alfred Hospital, University of Melbourne  
• National (e.g National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research (NCHECR), other sexual health centres)
• International (National Institutes of Health (NIH))
• Industry (Phamaceutical Companies).

Research and Evaluation unit includes academic staff of the University, research nurses and research students.  The unit supports opportunities for PhD candidates and Advanced Medical Science students (AMS).

Dissemination of research output is published in scientific journals, surveillance reports, conference presentations and MSHC annual report.
