There will be no more updates on this web page until all the data is collected, checked, cleaned, finalized and analyzed! After starting recruitment in Victoria in May 2007 and then enrolling over 1000 women from Victoria, NSW and ACT, the CIRIS office is now down to our last 100 final follow up packs. Data is now being collated from the main study and the sub study and many interested parties, including the investigating team and the participants, are very curious about the results.
The collating and analyzing of the data will take the investigators well into 2010 and the final CIRIS study results will be posted on this web page, and if indicated, posted or sent by email, to all the participants.
Thank you to all who participated or supported this project.

Investigators and research assistants on the CIRIS study have been well represented at this international conference currently taking place in London. Jennifer Walker, Dr Jane Hocking and Dr Sandra Walker have presented two posters – one on maximizing retention rates on the CIRIS project and another on a Chlamydia related trial involving computer alerts for GPs – the C-Alert trial. Both posters received very positive feedback.
On Tuesday 30th June Jennifer Walker gave an excellent presentation C-Alert – “COMPUTER REMINDERS FOR CHLAMYDIA SCREENING IN GENERAL PRACTICE: A RANDOMISED CONTROLLED TRIAL” – to a receptive and appreciative audience whilst earlier that day another investigator on the CIRIS trial – Professor Kit Fairley – was part of a prestigious plenary session “STI/HIV PREVENTION RESEARCH: THE AGONY,THE ECSTASY & THE FUTURE”.
Congratulations to presenters – all of us at CIRIS have felt very grateful to be part of such a talented and dedicated research team. We have also felt privileged to work with such accommodating, supportive and pleasant participants and clinics so congratulations to you as well! After all it is thanks to all involved that this project has not only been such an important project but it has also enjoyed so much success– thank you!

International Society for STD research conference taking place in London in June. Interest has been generated by the high response rates and the prevalence data in the study – thanks again to participants. Representatives from the team are also hoping to present data from CIRIS at the Australian Sexual Health Conference in Brisbane this September.
Meanwhile this year has already seen some media coverage of the climbing sexually transmitted infection rate, particularly Chlamydia, and the controversy surrounding measures of prevention that include the issue of early sex education for children. Like all important public health issues, research and an informed public debate will hopefully contribute to improved health outcomes.

We have been really cheered by our response rate to the study– thank you CIRIS participants! We know how busy and transient young women’s lives are so we even more impressed by how co-operative and accommodating the participants have been. We are interested to know what forms of communication (i.e.SMS, email) have been the most convenient and least intrusive for all of you – please feel free to let us know. (Links on home page)
Quite a few of the comments listed by participants on our final questionnaires state real interest in the final data. When completed this will be posted on our website. Our senior researchers are busy analyzing the data we have accumulated so far and this will continue for many months to come before being completed. All efforts will be made to make this information accessible for all – especially our participants!
