3rd December 2007

As life speeds up towards the end of the year the CIRIS team would like to especially thank all the participants who let us know their change of contact details so promptly. We are really grateful as we know how busy everyone is – particularly at this time of year! (Our toll free phone number 1 800 082 820 and is for phone calls only whilst if it is more convenient for you to text us please use 0417 539 739).

CIRIS recruitment continues at two Melbourne metropolitan clinics and two clinics in NSW. Other clinics in Victoria, NSW and ACT are due to begin late January 2008. Three and six month follow up is continuing and now some questionnaires, with participant’s permission, are being completed over the phone. Again, the time factor finds some participants preferring this very quick option.

Thanks again to all the participants and clinics in the CIRIS study. The success so far of the study (600 participants so far) has, is and will continue to be dependant upon the co-operation of the staff of the clinics involved and of all of the participants.

Thanking you for all your support in 2007and looking forward to your continuing support in 2008. A happy and safe festive season to all!

Everyone at CIRIS and beyond can’t believe it is November already - next week six month follow ups will begin! Again, because it can never be said enough, the CIRIS team would like to sincerely thank all the participants who have emailed us at ciris@mshc.org.au or used the link “Change your contact details” on this web page or texted us on 0417 539 739 with their change of address details. Life is very busy and we appreciate all your efforts – especially as the busy end of the year looms…

1st October 2007
For the sports fans involved in CIRIS we hope your teams were successful and for the others we hope you found alternative avenues of enjoyment! The beginning of October always feels like the beginning of a countdown toward a busy time of year so we would like to sincerely thank all the participants who have emailed us (ciris@mshc.org.au or link “Change your contact details” on this web page) or texted us (1800 082 820) with their change of address. We know how busy modern life is so we are very appreciative of your consideration.
The first 3 month follow up questionnaires are coming in thick and fast and we have just started in more Melbourne general practices. Soon the CIRIS project will also start recruiting in Sydney as well.
Again, thanks again to all the participants and clinics in the CIRIS study. The success of this study is dependant upon the co-operation of clinics and all of you returning your follow up questionnaires and specimens - we really appreciate your continued support of this study.

3rd September 2007
Thanks again to all participants as early September finds CIRIS not only sending but receiving participants’ three month follow up questionnaires and packages. Sydney and Newcastle clinics are “poised” to start recruiting shortly with regional Victorian and ACT clinics in the pipeline.

The success of this study is dependant upon you all returning your follow up questionnaires and specimens and we really appreciate your continued support of this study.

The information which we hope to collect about the rates of chlamydia, Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) has exciting implications for health policy, particularly in regard to women’s sexual and reproductive health. Talking of which, Dr Catriona Bradshaw, an expert in BV and one of the CIRIS investigators, has just been honoured with L’Oreal Women in Science Fellowships.  http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/what-a-difference-20000-makes/2007/08/28/1188067111160.html
Congratulations and well deserved Catriona!

1st August 2007

We are delighted with the initial response to the CIRIS project and want to give a big thanks to all our wonderful participants and the brilliant clinic staff at recruitment sites. Thank you to all. So far CIRIS has recruited approximately 350 participants from Melbourne, ACT and Northern NSW. On the drawing board are more clinics in regional Victoria, NSW and ACT. Next week we will start our 3 month follow up mail out of questionnaires and, if indicated, self collected swabs and slides. It is too early to comment or report on any data about of chlamydia, Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) rates yet but we look forward to sharing information in the future.
