This study looked at whether taking HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) was associated with less condoms being used for anal sex.

114 participants were recruited from four clinics. Sexual practice data, HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) test results were collected at baseline and 3-monthly during follow up.

We found that participant adherence to taking PrEP medication was high. A significant decline in condom use was found together with a significant increase in STIs over the first 12 months of PrEP use.
