This study aimed to determine the proportion of asymptomatic men who have sex with men (MSM) who had M. genitalium in the urethra or rectum. We also looked at the prevalence of macrolide resistance and risk factors for infection.

We tested asymptomatic MSM for Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) and also for antibiotic resistance to MG in urine and rectal swab samples. We compared the amount of MG in those with no symptoms to those MSM complaining of symptoms of rectal inflammation and non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU).

Our publication discusses the complex results of our investigation.
