Current (not recruiting)

We would like to understand the current knowledge of and attitudes towards mpox among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men.

About the study

This study is being run by the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre and Monash University. You are invited to participate in an online survey because you are identified as a man or trans woman who has sex with men and are currently living in Victoria, Australia. This is an anonymous survey which takes approximately 5 minutes to complete.
In July 2022, The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the ongoing monkeypox outbreaks in multiple countries a Public Health Emergency. In August 2022, monkeypox has also been declared a Communicable Disease Incident of National Significance in Australia. We would like to understand the current knowledge of monkeypox and the intention to get vaccinated among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men.

Who we want to talk to

You are eligible if you

  • identify yourself as a man or trans woman who has sex with men; AND
  • are currently living in Victoria, Australia; AND
  • are 18 years old or above.

What’s involved

You are invited to complete an anonymous online survey which takes about 5 minutes. No information will be collected that could identify you.
If you complete the survey, you will be asked whether you would like to enter a lucky draw to win an AU$50 gift card. Ten gift cards in total will be won. If you are willing to enter a lucky draw, you will be redirected to a separate survey to enter your contact details: name, mobile number and email address. Your contact details will not be linked to your responses to the main survey. Once the prize draw is completed and the winners are contacted, the list of contacts will be permanently deleted. You cannot enter the lucky draw unless you complete the survey. We anticipate that the lucky draw will be conducted in late 2022.
