Tele triage
From December 2nd, we will no longer have a walk-in service. Please call us first to speak with a nurse before coming to the clinic
What is Tele triage?
Teletriage is a phone service that helps you get the right sexual health care.
When you call, a nurse will talk with you about your symptoms and needs.
The nurse will then:
- Book you an appointment at MSHC, or
- Help you find another suitable service (for example, a local clinic or GP).
This helps us:
- Prioritise people with urgent or complex needs
- Shorten waiting times
- Make sure everyone gets the right care

When you call
The nurse will
- Ask you a few questions about your symptoms and situation
- Decide if MSHC is the right place for your care
- Give you an appointment time if we can see you
If we are fully booked, or another service is more suitable, the nurse will help you find where to go instead.
When you have an appointment
- Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in.
- First go to reception on arrival.
- You may be asked for some details when you arrive.
- If you arrive 15 minutes late for your scheduled appointment you may not be seen on the day.
What happens during your visit
Once you are in the clinic room, a doctor or nurse will:
- Talk with you about your sexual health concerns
- Ask about your sexual health and general health
- Do an examination (if needed)
- Discuss testing and treatment options
You can always ask questions and choose what happens during your visit.
Examination
A doctor or nurse may need to look at your genitals to check for infection.
Before starting, they will explain what will happen and ask for your consent.
You can choose what you are comfortable with.
You might be asked to undress from the waist down.
Some people may feel a little discomfort during the examination — this is normal and usually mild.
Results
- Most results are ready within a week
- Some tests are ready within 30–60 minutes
- If you consent, we will text your negative HIV result within 3 days
- If a result is positive or unclear, we will call you and ask you to come in
- We will only contact you if you have an infection
If you’d like to check your results, please wait 7 days after your visit before calling us.
Treatment
If your results are ready on the day, we may:
- Give you medication or an injection
- Offer you a vaccination to help prevent infections in the future
If you have already left the clinic, we will call you to come back for treatment if needed.
