How to take PrEP
There are different ways to take PrEP
- Daily: Taking one pill every day for lasting protection
- On-demand: Taking PrEP pills only when you are at risk for getting HIV

First time using PrEP?
PrEP is safe for most people.
Some people may feel nausea, headache, diarrhoea, bloating or tiredness when they first start, but this usually improves within a few days or weeks.
Speak to a doctor, nurse or pharmacist if side effects are severe or do not improve.
In your consultation
Your doctor will test you for HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia), kidney function and hepatitis B/C.
You will received
- A 90-day supply of PrEP pills.
- A pathology request form for your next appointment
Your next appointment will be
- Face-to-face at MSHC - pathology will be done when you arrive
- Telephone consultation - please do pathology 1 week before, at one of our partner pathology providers at no cost :
