The EPSOM study was a cross-sectional study to estimate the prevalence of enteric pathogens in asymptomatic MSM attending for STI screening.

All participants completed a survey on sexual practices and their general and sexual health. We tested all participants for sexually transmissible infections.

We found enteric pathogens in 57 of 519 (11%) asymptomatic MSM. We also we found that enteric pathogen detection was associated with both oroanal sex (rimming) and group sex.
