How We Did It: We conducted a survey involving 411 participants from diverse backgrounds across Australia. We used a method called a "Discrete Choice Experiment." We presented participants with different versions of the app with varying in price, speed, accuracy, and medical involvement and asked them to choose which one they would prefer.
What We Found:
The study revealed that while people are open to using AI for health screening, they have four distinct priorities. In order of importance, users look for:
- Low Cost: Users strongly prefer an app that is affordable or free.
- Human Verification: Users prefer an app where the AI’s findings are double-checked by a human clinician, rather than relying on the computer alone.
- High Accuracy: Users want to use the app when AI can make accurate diagnoses most of the time.
- Speed: Users want their results delivered quickly.
To conclude, people prefer an affordable STI screening app with results checked by a clinician, which is highly accurate and provides quick results.
Who's eligible:
You are eligible if you
- are 18 years old and above
- have been sexually active in the past 12 months
What’s involved:
You are invited to complete an anonymous online survey which takes 5-10 minutes. No information will be collected that could identify you. If you complete the survey, you will be asked whether you would like to enter a lucky draw to win an AU$100 gift card.
Ten gift cards in total will be won. If you are willing to enter a lucky draw, you will be redirected to a separate survey to enter your contact details: name, mobile number and email address. Your contact details will not be linked to your responses to the main survey.
Once the prize draw is completed and the winners are contacted, the list of contacts will be permanently deleted. You cannot enter the lucky draw unless you complete the survey.
We anticipate that the lucky draw will be conducted in quarter 3 of 2024.
