Vale Dr Tim Read
Melbourne Sexual Health Centre honours the memory of Dr Tim Read, a much-loved clinician, researcher and friend to many of us at MSHC.
Many of us knew Tim personally, and many more will know of the extraordinary contribution he made to sexual health, public health and public life. Before entering the Victorian Parliament, Tim was an important part of the MSHC community. He brought to our Centre a rare combination of candour, wisdom, humour and deep compassion. His care for clients and generosity towards colleagues enriched our workplace, and his influence remains with us.
Tim was an expert in sexual health, but also, perhaps more importantly, an expert in the things that matter. He cared deeply about evidence, fairness, prevention and improving people's lives. He understood the importance of looking beyond ourselves, caring for those around us, and using our gifts in the service of others. Those qualities carried through his career as a doctor, researcher and Member for Brunswick. His public-health advocacy contributed to reforms across areas including blood donation, drug harm reduction and tobacco control.
Our thoughts are with Tim's family, friends and the many communities whose lives he touched. In mourning his loss, we also celebrate a life lived with purpose, generosity and profound commitment to others. We are grateful that Tim was part of the MSHC story, and the light he brought to this place will continue to guide and inspire us.
Tim will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.
